I recently had the opportunity to interview a new International homeowner of mine who has just purchased a beautiful beachfront apartment located on the prime west coast. I wanted to pick his brains to understand what made him decide to invest in Barbados this year. Check out the interview below to see why he decided to make Barbados his second home!

How long have you been visiting Barbados for?

We have been visiting Barbados for the last 20 years. In fact, nearly every year and have always loved the island.

What made you decide to invest in a holiday home in Barbados?

We particularly feel that Barbados has a lot to offer – the best people, wealth of restaurants, friendly atmosphere, perfect climate, stunning beaches and generally just a relaxing place to visit.

Why did you decide this year to make the purchase?

This year we decided to buy a property because we have seen property prices have become more realistic, and affordable than we have seen in previous years. There is a well rounded government in place which is stable and the local economy is improving. In the last 2 years we have been coming for 3 months every year. We see it now as cost effective to buy somewhere as opposed to renting for this length of time.

What made you decide that Reeds House was the perfect place to buy?

We have been staying at Reeds House for the last 4-5 years. We are drawn to this small development, with an almost a private beach. There are very nice people who run it and it has been the same familiar faces for the last 5+ years. It is extremely well run. We love that our apartment will step out onto one of the nicest beaches in the World!

Prior to that we were working and only able to visit the island for a few weeks per year on holidays. We would usually stay at a hotel back then.

What are the main things that you are looking forward to now that you own a second home in Barbados?

Now we own a home, there will be more flexibility to come when we like – as long as it has not been snapped up for holiday rental.* Ideally we would like to visit 6-7 weeks at the end of year and again from February for 2-3 months. We wish to rent short term in between when we are not using it.

Do you have any advice to anyone looking to invest in Barbados?

Now is the time to consider an investment in Barbados, property prices, particularly on the west coast, are the most affordable we have seen!

*Reeds House 3 will now be available for holiday rental through our holiday rental company Blue Sky Luxury.
