Barbados is well-known for its polo events and polo communities with a seasoned programme of tournaments spanning January through to April. For instance, Apes Hill Club is a highly sought-after community which features many luxury properties for sales and rent with the convenience of nearby polo and golf amenities. One of the recent polo highlights in Barbados was the UNNA and ICBL Cheshire Polo Tour.
Every year, the popular Cheshire Polo Tour in Barbados coincides with the Sandy Gold Cup horse race, drawing a massive following of locals and UK visitors for a unique and event-filled equine weekend. This year was no different, as staunch supporters known came out in vibrant red attire to support the visiting Cheshire team from February 28-March 6. Their support led the Cheshire Polo team to a mere half-point victory over local rivals, the Barbados Polo team.
The annual four-game tournament was hosted between, Holder’s Hill and Apes Hill polo fields, and concluded with the highly-anticipated Big Hat Polo Party where ladies flaunted their finest chapeaus. Dating back three decades, this friendly rivalry was sponsored by UNNA Luxury Resorts & Residences, developers of Port Ferdinand and Saint Peter’s Bay, and Insurance Company of Barbados Ltd (ICBL).
Special guests included Victoria Dean, British High Commissioner, Petra Roach, Director of the US for BTMI and the Honourable Donville O. Inniss, Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development.
