The Chic, New Tides

The Tides restaurant is an icon on the west coast. It is a celebration of the seaside living, and emanates a serenity that welcomes lunch and dinner crowds to enjoy fresh sea breezes in a soothing atmosphere. But this September, the Tides Restaurant debuted a refreshed look, and as if to truly accentuate and compliment its prime location on the enviable platinum coast, the restaurant has now stepped up its overall luxuriousness as it continues to plate its signature - and delectably delicious - courses.

Thanks to husband and wife team of Guy and Tammie Beasley, for sixteen years, the restaurant has been the chosen location of Barbadians and visitors looking to create precious memories - from the most intimate occasions to the biggest, heartiest celebrations. Its calling-card has been its delectable menu of local and international dishes, and the restaurant has also impressed with its art gallery, which is a striking visual appreciation of local and international fine arts. But the classic Tides has now been revamped into a chic, more modern mode.

Housed in a typical Barbadian seaside dwelling, the coral stone and mahogany create a stylish, island atmosphere that culminates beside the rippling blue waters of the west coast. The layout of this historic home creates four distinct dining ambiances for the lovers of Tides - The Tree House featuring magnificent casuarina trees growing through the dining area; The Centre Lanai, the new incarnation of the former space known as the Red Tile area with its warmly lit ambiance; The Gazebo, a raised intimate area suited for groups; and, The Garden Gazebo, which has been transformed to a new oceanfront, glass-walled, climate controlled dining room.

As for its new décor, Tides wows with a modern twist on its signature self, welcoming even richer azure accents, grand and funky chandeliers, a more spacious feel. But the charm of the Tides has not been lost in the least, as its warm, welcoming mood remains. “The restaurant is definitely chic and modern, but not in the direction of minimalism. Since we are great lovers of art we could never create a minimalist space - so, there are still several beautiful pieces around, and the art gallery offers its usual magic. We felt that over the years, our diners like to feel welcomed and warm and like to look around and appreciate their surroundings.” Mrs. Beasley confirmed.

The Tides quietly reopened in August after major renovations to the classic spot, and - to say the least - they have been overwhelmed by nods of approval and rave reviews. One of the biggest hits thus far during the new lunchtime Tides experience is the new air-conditioned dining room – an unexpected but very welcomed addition to lunching options on the breathtaking coast. Tides is now even more built for lounging and enjoying decadent bar treats, with outdoor lounge areas complete with the therapeutic sound of cascading water and jaw dropping décor at the chic but comforting Cocktail lounge and bar.

But, the most exciting change may very well lie in the kitchen. With a renewed goal of creating the boldest, most tantalizing flavours on the west coast, Tides boasts a completely updated kitchen complete with the latest equipment to help in delivering the embodiment of flavour. In addition to executive chef Mr. Beasley, also manning the kitchen now are talented Barbadian chef Simon Tempro, and James Lidsey, who brings almost two decades of experience from his time in Michelin-rated kitchens. In addition to the food maestros, the impeccably reviewed staff are just as enthusiastic to create a wonderful time at The Tides, as diners tuck into favourites such as Yellowfin Tuna Tartare or take a walk on the daring side with the Lionfish Salad offered on the lunch menu.

A trip to The Tides Restaurant is the new order of the west coast day, and with several beaming reviews from satisfied veterans and overawed first timers alike, the visit will definitely be worth the while.

The Tides Restaurant is opened for lunch from Sunday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., and opened for dinner seven days a week from 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Reservations are encouraged.
